Branch of Quality Systems

The USGS Branch of Quality Systems - Organic Blind Sample Project (OBSP) purpose is to monitor, assess and evaluate the USGS National Water Quality Laboratory (NWQL) organic analytical results through the use of blind quality assurance samples. The OBSP was implemented in 1996 and reviews over 600 organic constituents.

Data Assessment Summaries
Data Assessment Data Assessment
OBSP maintains a database for the retrieval, assessment and storage of blind quality assurance sample results. Tools used in assessing the blind sample results are:
Summaries Summaries
Periodically OBSP provides data quality assessment Summaries. These Summaries document changes, trends and analyte performance of the NWQL organic methods over time.

Current Methods
Here is a list of the NWQL methods OBSP monitors at this time.
Note: As of May 2014, OBSP will cease to QA the following methodes due to either low demand or replacement of a newer method: LS1383, LS1433, LS2001, LS2021, LS2060, LS4024
Project Planning Future Products
OBSP is in the process of developing new tools and products of the organic quality assurance data to aid the user in the interpretation of their environmental data, Here is a list of the new tools OBSP is developing:
