STANDARD REFERENCE SAMPLE TYPES -  
Trace element sample: chlorinated with sodium hypochlorite and acidified to pH<2 (0.4% HNO3)
Major ion sample: chlorinated with sodium hypochlorite
Precipitation (low ionic-strength) sample: unpreserved snowmelt
Nutrient (low concentration/odd numbered) sample: unpreserved, keep at 4°C,
requires 1:10 dilution prior to analysis, report result from diluted aliquot
Nutrient sample (normal concentration/even numbered: unpreserved, keep at 4°C
Mercury sample: concentration <0.1 µg/L, preserved with 0.4% HCl
